Joined up thinking

Credit where credit is due as they say. So I’d like to give some credit to Dear Auntie Beeb for releasing a Mac/Linux compatible version of their iPlayer. I knew I was going to miss Buzzcocks this evening so I aquired a DVI->HDMI cable and hooked my MacBook up to the tele. It worked better than I thought it would – most watchable. Shame DVI doesn’t do sound though…

    Hi Al,

Nice blog. Have you managed to get your Digihome PVR connected to your Macbook? I want to be able to burn dvd’s from the PVR’s library using the Mac’s superdrive, but I can’t figure out how to do it. You seem just the sort of man who’d know.

    Thanks

    Hi Ollie,

Thanks for your comments. I have not cracked open the PVR yet, but strangely enough I was reading up on it the other day.

If you look here, and search down the page for a post on “2007-08-12 06:35:59” by “AJ” there is some good info from which to get started.

Hope that helps, and do shout if you have any luck!

Flippin’ heck! That’s WAY beyond me — I thought I could use the RS232 socket and some sort of adaptor to one of the Mac ports (Firewire or USB) but obviously not! Ah well . . .

Thanks anyway and happy new year.

Oh, thought of something else, though: presumably I could play the saved PVR movie on my tv and then record it to VHS on my VCR? Or not? If so, is there anything I need to know or do?

    Thanks Al.

I see now reason why you couldn’t connect the PVR to the VCR via scart and record the SCART input with the VCR (assuming your VCR records off SCART, my old one did – I don’t have a VCR anymore).

WRT the complexity of pulling files off the PVR, yes, its a bit fiddly, especially removing the drive etc. I was pondering using an external IDE/USB drive caddy to bring the disk out of the PVR to make pulling to a Mac easier, but I’m kind of thinking it all to much hassle and I could just buy a Elgato thing for the Mac 😉
